Reminder: Holiday recycling and garbage collection schedule

Winnipeg, MB - Residents are reminded that their recycling and garbage collection schedule will be adjusted over the holidays.

Recycling/Garbage Collection Schedule for the Holiday Season

All customers (including single-family homes, apartments and businesses)

  • Recycling and garbage collection service will continue as usual on December 24 and December 31.
  • There will be no recycling and garbage collection service on December 25 or January 1.

Single-family homes - Adjusted collection schedule
For customers that normally have collection on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, please put your recycling and garbage carts out one day later during the weeks of December 23 to 27 and December 30 to January 3.

Apartments and businesses - Collection schedule
For customers with:

  • Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday collection - recycling and garbage collection service will be one day later during the weeks with Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Saturday collection - no change.

Brady Road Resource Management Facility (Brady Road Landfill)
The only changes to regular operating hours during the holidays are:

Holiday materials that can be recycled

  • Christmas cards
  • Cardboard boxes (flattened)
  • Plastic packaging with a recycling triangle
  • Christmas trees - can be dropped off at any of the "Let’s Chip In" Depots from December 27 to January 20. For more information on the depot locations, call 311 or visit City of Winnipeg - Let’s Chip in Depots . Trees placed next to recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

Holiday materials that are NOT recyclable

  • Christmas gift wrap and ribbon
  • Foam packaging
  • Plastic packaging without a recycling triangle
  • Plastic film

Other holiday recycling tips

  • Before recycling, check through the packaging to ensure that you have removed all instructions, parts etc.
  • Consider saving some of the gift boxes and reusing them for special occasions in the New Year.
  • Ensure that all materials, including cardboard boxes, fit loosely in your cart, so that they fall freely into the truck. This will ensure all your items are collected.
  • Extra recyclables can be dropped off at one of the seven Recycling Depots, open 24 hours every day. For depot locations, call 311 or visit City of Winnipeg - Recycle Depots
