Winnipeg, MB - Community By-law Enforcement has teamed up with the William Whyte and Dufferin residents associations to take action, both from an enforcement perspective and through community involvement.

During the month of May, the City’s Community By-law Enforcement Officers have been conducting yard-to-yard garbage and litter clean-up inspections of private residential and commercial properties in the neighbourhoods of Dufferin and the Dufferin Industrial area. In addition, numerous William Whyte properties identified by the community are also being inspected.

“I am proud to see that our Department staff has been working closely with these groups to make positive strides in creating clean and safe neighbourhoods,” said Clive Wightman, Director of Community Services. “Everyone has a role to play when it comes to cleanliness and instilling pride in our communities.”

The associations will be conducting community cleanups on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 (see details below).

The clean-up will cover approximately 100 city blocks and organizers anticipate numerous people will be on hand to assist with event. Volunteers include area residents of all ages, businesses, schools, day cares and local organizations.

“The Dufferin and William Whyte residents associations are pleased with the City's willingness to help with our garbage and illegal dumping woes,” said Annette Champion Taylor of the William Whyte Residents Association. “We have a big problem in our respective neighbourhoods, particularly with people coming from other areas to dump their garbage in our community.”
