Winnipeg, MB – At 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a house on Marble Avenue.
At the scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire and declared it under control at 8:22 p.m.
No injuries were reported. No damage estimates are available.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental and related to cooking. Kitchen fires are one of the leading causes of residential fires. Follow these tips to avoid a kitchen fire in your home:
Never leave the kitchen if you’re using the stove top. If you do need to leave, turn off the element.
Kip a lid nearby. If a fire starts in a pot or pan, put an oven mitt on, slide the lid over the pot and turn the element off.
Never use water on a grease fire.
If you’re cooking or baking in the oven, check it often. If a fire starts, keep the oven door closed and turn off the oven, if you can do so safely.
Keep anything that can catch fire away from the cooking surface, including oven mitts, towels, curtains, and other flammable objects.
Avoid wearing loose clothing when cooking.
Keep a one-metre children- and pet-free zone around your oven when it’s on.
Check your smoke alarms every month to make sure they’re working. Every home should have one.
Have a home escape plan for your home and practice it often with everyone who lives in your home.
If a fire starts in your kitchen and you can’t safely and quickly put it out, get out, stay out and call 9-1-1.
