Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two structure fires this morning.
Nairn Avenue fire
At 1:23 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 300 block of Nairn Avenue.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Dangerous fire conditions prevented them from entering, so they began a defensive fire attack from the exterior. Once conditions improved, crews entered the house to continue firefighting operations. However, unsafe interior conditions forced them to exit and return to a defensive attack from the outside. Crews brought the fire under control at 4:45 a.m.
One firefighter sustained an injury on scene. Paramedics assessed the firefighter, and transport to hospital was not required. The firefighter was taken off duty. No other injuries were reported.
The building sustained severe fire, smoke, and water damage. Because of structural concerns and to help locate remaining hotspots, WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition.
Once the road reopens, residents should use caution. Water from firefighting efforts may freeze and create slippery conditions. City crews will monitor the area and apply sand and de‑icing materials to roads and sidewalks as needed to improve traction.
The fire is under investigation.
Magnus Avenue fire
At 5:27 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to a report of a fire in a one‑and‑a‑half‑storey house in the 400 block of Magnus Avenue.
When crews arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters quickly began extinguishing the fire and brought it under control at 5:56 a.m.
All occupants evacuated the home safely. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team activated to support residents displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
