Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a structure fire this morning and performed a water rescue this afternoon.
Flora Avenue fire
At 10:43 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey residence in the 300 block of Flora Avenue. Callers to 9-1-1 indicated occupants were trapped and attempting to evacuate from upper floor windows.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.
All occupants evacuated before crews arrived. A neighbour quickly set up a ladder to help them exit safely.
Paramedics assessed the occupants at the scene, and none required transport to hospital.
Firefighters entered the residence and attacked the fire from inside. The fire was declared under control at 11:15 a.m.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Red River water rescue
At 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of an individual in the Red River, near the Provencher Bridge.
Once on scene, crews located the individual in the water. Using specialized equipment, the WFPS Water and Ice Rescue Unit rescued the individual from the water and brought them to shore.
The patient was assessed and treated by paramedics and then transported to hospital in critical condition.
At this time, it is not known why the individual came to be in the water, or how long they were there.
