Winnipeg, MB - For the third year in a row, bicycle riders in Winnipeg can enjoy events happening around the city for Bike Week when it kicks off on June 18, 2016. This year, Bike Week Winnipeg presents seven days of new and returning bike programming, including over 60 city-wide pit stops to service a predicted 4,000 riders participating in the 9th annual Bike to Work Day on Friday, June 24.

“Winnipeg has a vibrant and thriving cycling community that is enthusiastic about sharing their passion for the sport, and advocating for the benefits of human-powered transportation,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Bike Week events provide a great way for Winnipeggers to get active outdoors to try out our city’s various trails and explore our city.”

“We want to build on last year’s success and make this year’s Bike Week Winnipeg as inclusive as possible, so we’re working to host events that will engage with riders of all ages and skill levels,” says Dave Elmore, Bike Week Winnipeg’s Project Manager. “Bike Week is for everyone.”

New events this year include family rides and a Bike Thru Breakfast, whereby all bike riders are invited to visit any of Bike Week Winnipeg’s four Bike Thru Breakfast locations on Monday, June 20 from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. for a grab-and-go breakfast to kick off the week.

Returning favourites include Community Bike Shop Day, bike yoga, the Moveable Feast, an outdoor spin class, and of course the 9th annual Bike to Work Day.

Throughout the week, there will also be several group rides, theme rides and many opportunities to get help tuning up your bike at local community bike shops.

Festivities wrap up with our Bikes and BBQ Party hosted by Half Pints on Friday, June 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at our new location on the front lawn of The University of Winnipeg.

All Bike Week events are open to the public and free unless otherwise indicated on the Bike Week Winnipeg website.

“Riding a bike is one of the best things you can do for yourself and our earth. We want everyone to come out and enjoy the fun of riding a bike,” added Elmore.

Bike Week is an annual week-long celebration of people riding their bicycles in Winnipeg, culminating in Bike to Work Day. Bike Week Winnipeg believes in encouraging people to ride their bicycle and creating a fun and engaging experience for all riders. For more information, visit the Bike Week Winnipeg website.
