Officer-Involved Shooting: C19-7998

On January 11, 2019, at approximately 7:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service encountered a male acting suspiciously in the area of Sargent Avenue and Maryland Street.

As officers approached the male, he fled. Officers again made contact with the male in a nearby vacant lot. During this encounter, the male produced a weapon and officers discharged their firearms. Officers subsequently provided medical treatment and the male was transported to hospital in critical condition, but has since been pronounced deceased.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. All further inquiries are to be directed to the IIU.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C19-7840

On January 11, 2019, at approximately 3:25 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to the intersection of Maroons Road and St. James Street for the report of a collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old female, was transported to hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported.

Members of the Traffic Division continued with the investigation believe that a southbound vehicle making an eastbound turn collided with a northbound vehicle. The northbound vehicle then struck the pedestrian and a traffic light pole.

Investigators are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have information concerning the incident contact the Traffic Division at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Homicide - Arrest: C19-5928

On January 9, 2019, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol Officers responded to a report of a domestic incident in progress at a residence in the 500 block of Daer Boulevard.

Responding officers located a 41-year-old unconscious female. She was transported to hospital, but was pronounced deceased. A 44-year-old male from the same residence was arrested at the scene. He was taken to hospital for treatment of an injury where he was treated and released.

The deceased victim has been identified as Eunjee Kim, a 41-year-old female of Winnipeg.

 Juhyun Park, a 44-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

 - Manslaughter

He was detained in custody.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C19-4582

On January 7, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a residence located in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue for a report of a male who had been shot.

First responders located a male victim in his 30’s who had sustained a serious gunshot wound to the upper body. He was conveyed to hospital in critical condition. The victim remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after arrival, officers detained an adult male at the scene.

Benny Lance Hansen, a 34-year-old, of Winnipeg, has been arrested and charged with:

 - Aggravated Assault
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 2
- Possess Firearm

Hansen was detained in custody.
