Assault - Arrests: C17-235837 & C17-235915

On October 18, 2017 at approximately 11:58 a.m., Winnipeg Transit Control contacted police regarding a male passenger threatening a transit supervisor. General Patrol members attended and arrested an adult male.

It was learned that the suspect boarded the bus in the area of Chancellor Matheson Rd. and University Cr. through the rear door, without paying his fare. The bus operator requested the male pay, at which time the he became verbally abusive and took a seat.  A short time later, a transit inspected boarded the bus and attempted to speak with the suspect who in turn threatened and assaulted the Inspector, tearing his uniform in the process. The transit inspector and transit operator were able to restrain the suspect until police arrived.

Daniel CANEDA, 24-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with Assault, Uttering Threats and Mischief Under $5000.

At approximately 1:35 p.m., Winnipeg Police were called to the area of Tuxedo Ave. and Corydon Ave. in regards to a violent male on a Winnipeg Transit bus. General patrol members attended and arrested an adult male.

Officer learned that the suspect was a passenger and without provocation he approached a 45-year-old male passenger and choked him to the point of unconsciousness. A second male passenger attempted to intervene and was choked and assaulted by the suspect. Both males were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Joseph James MCKAY, 43-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with Assault X2 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Both males have been detained in custody.

Shots Fired: C17-236360

On October 18, 2017 at approximately 11:25 p.m., General Patrol and Tactical Support Team members responded to the report of shots fired in the 300 block of Salter St. Upon arrival officers observed a smashed window and entered the residence. Officers located evidence of shots being fired into the residence and a number of shell casings were located outside, at the rear of the residence.

Five adults were in the residence at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
