Overdose Investigation – C16-70590

Public Advisory:
On April 10, 2016 at approximately 4:10 a.m., Patrol members were flagged down while travelling in the area of the 1300 block of Main Street regarding two unconscious individuals requiring immediate medical attention.
It was reported that a male and female were unconscious in a nearby vehicle possibly suffering from a Fentanyl related overdose. Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded and due to their efforts both patients were revived and transported to hospital.
A third victim was also located nearby in stable condition.
The Winnipeg Police Service is continuing to investigate and determine the substances involved. One of the possible substances is Fentanyl however further testing is required and on-going.
Over the recent past, there has been a progressive increase in the number of illicit drug overdose deaths in which Fentanyl is detected, either alone or in combination with other drugs.
If you witness someone experiencing an overdose, call 9-1-1 and give them rescue breaths if they are not breathing.
For more information on prescription drug abuse please visit the Government of Canada website or the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse.
