On March 12, 2023, at approximately 12:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Main Street for the report of a male who had been robbed by a group of youths.
Attending Central District General Patrol officers spoke with a 25-year-old male victim who advised he was uninjured and provided a description of the suspects. With assistance from Canine Unit members and guidance from AIR1, four suspects were tracked to the intersection of Provencher Boulevard and St. Joseph Street and were placed under arrest without incident. Two of the suspects were found to have a can of bear spray, a large sheathed serrated knife, and a curved knife in their possession.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned that the victim was walking in the 200 block of Main Street when he was approached by several youths who demanded property while one brandished and threatened him with what was described as a machete.
A 20-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the charge of Robbery and two counts of Possession of a Weapon. A 17-year-old male, also of Winnipeg, is facing two charges of Possession of a Weapon. Both were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The two other 17-year-old males were released on their own recognizance without charges.
