Robbery/Assault – Arrest: C23-294940

Released: December 7, 2023 at 10:11 a.m.

On December 6, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a retail store in the 200 block of Portage Avenue for the report of an adult male who had been stabbed during a commercial robbery.

Central and North District officers attended and located a 23-year-old male victim in a nearby business suffering from a serious upper-body injury sustained from a stabbing. The victim, a Loss Prevention Officer, was provided emergency medical attention before being transported to hospital in stable condition. An adult male suspect fled before police arrived.

With assistance from the general public, officers located the suspect at the intersection of Main Street and Disraeli Freeway and safely arrested him after a short foot pursuit. Officers recovered the discarded weapon nearby and seized it as evidence.

Bruce Richard RENSCHLER, 52, is charged with the following offences:

- Robbery
- Assault with a Weapon

- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

He was detained in custody.
