Winnipeg, MB – At 7:42 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found a well-involved fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Due to the heavy fire conditions, crews were not able to enter the structure. They fought the fire defensively, applying water to the fire using handlines and an aerial ladder, while also protecting the neighbouring homes. The fire was declared under control at 9:18 a.m.
Crews evacuated residents from the neighbouring residences as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The house is considered a complete loss. As the structural integrity of the building is compromised, arrangements are being made for the building to be demolished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
