On October 16, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to the 100 block of Kane Avenue for a suspicious vehicle occupied by two individuals.

West District General Patrol officers, assisted by Tactical Support Team members and Canine (K9) Unit members, attended and located a parked 2021 Hyundai Tucson previously reported stolen from a local dealership on October 12. Officers quickly arrested an adult female suspect and an adult male suspect without incident.

Officers seized the stolen vehicle’s key fob and 15 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition following the search of the female suspect. A search of the vehicle produced a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle and a sword, which officers also seized as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.

Angelica Corrine Nikole McKAY, 23, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

- Possession of a Weapon

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Porage Dumidu Dhananjaya PERERA, 27, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations

- Possession of a Weapon

- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Both were detained in custody.
