Mischief to Property – Arrests: C23-206317

Released: August 27, 2023 at 1:06 p.m.

On August 25, 2023, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a break & enter at a commercial property in the 2400 block of Main Street involving two suspects.

North District General Patrol officers attended and located the two adult male suspects nearby, arresting them without incident.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspects attended to the retail business in the 2400 block of Main Street and unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry by prying an overhead door, causing over $5,000 in damage.

Through its investigation, investigators linked both suspects to a second commercial break & enter on the same day, which occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. in the 1900 block of Main Street. During this incident, the suspects forcibly entered the commercial business by prying open an entry door, causing approximately $1,000 in damage. The suspects fled when they were confronted by the owner of the business, who was present inside at the time of the incident. The owner was not injured during the incident.

An officer search of the suspects produced a .410 calibre round of ammunition and a Manitoba Metis Federation card not in either’s name. Investigators linked the stolen card to an incident in the 900 block of Corydon Avenue on May 24, 2023, where a 58-year-old female victim was robbed of her purse containing her cellular phone and medication. She was uninjured during the incident.

Further investigation linked one of the suspects to several other incidents, including a break & enter to a commercial business in the 1400 block of Henderson Highway on July 29, where the suspect stole a Samsung Tablet and battery booster pack from the property and a break & enter to a commercial business in the 1300 block of Henderson where the suspect gained entry by prying open the rear entry door. The suspect fled with several vehicle keys, returned the following evening, and stole a 2004 Ford F-250 Lariat, a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, and a 2020 Kia Forte Ex. All three vehicles have since been recovered. Investigators also linked the suspect to a theft of a dealership license plate from a parked vehicle in the area of Selkirk and Main Street on August 25.
