Aggravated Assault – Arrests: C23-196305

Released: August 15, 2023 at 7:41 a.m.

On August 13, 2023, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue for the report of an adult female who had been stabbed.

General Patrol officers from the West District, assisted by members of the K-9 Unit, attended and located a 28-year-old female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers provided emergency medical care using a tourniquet before ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. Officers arrested two adult female suspects without incident.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the victim approached the suspects occupying a bus shelter when a verbal argument ensued. The verbal argument escalated to a physical assault where one of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, causing serious injuries to the victim.

The suspects and the victim were not previously known to one another.

Crystal Mary Helen BEARDY, 46, of Winnipeg, is charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained in custody.

A 33-year-old female from Winnipeg was also arrested and facing the charge of Aggravated Assault. She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The Major Crimes Unit continues its investigation. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
