Winnipeg, MB – At 1:36 a.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a significant fire in a commercial property in the 900 block of Logan Avenue. Crews called a second alarm due to the size and scale of the fire and its potential impacts. A second alarm means more apparatus and crews responded to the scene.
Nearby residents should close their doors and windows to protect their homes’ air quality. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and paramedics assessed them, but no transportation to hospital was required.
Firefighters are attacking the fire from the outside using aerial ladders and hand-held hose lines. WFPS crews are expected to be on scene throughout the day.
Six homes on Alexander Avenue are temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Two Winnipeg Transit buses responded to the scene to provide temporary shelter for evacuated residents.
Logan Avenue and Alexander Avenue between Arlington Street and McPhillips Street are closed. Pedestrians and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
