On May 2, 2023, at approximately 6:20 p.m., while attending an unrelated call for service, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members notified the Winnipeg Police Service after locating a male stabbed near Sargent Avenue and Furby Street.
A 31-year-old male victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition suffering from upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing. He refused to cooperate with investigators and did not request further police involvement. He was later upgraded to stable condition.
Central District General Patrol officers identified and attended to an involved residence in the 500 block of Furby Street. Officers arrested a male suspect in a common hallway after a brief use-of-force encounter.
Officers subsequently learned the male was also suspected of an earlier stabbing on April 26, 2023, in the 100 block of Henry Avenuet. A 51-year-old male suffered upper-body injuries and was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
On April 27, 2023, the Homicide Unit began investigating the suspicious death of a yet-to-be-identified male located in the South Point Douglas neighbourhood.
On May 3, 2023, Homicide Unit Investigators placed the suspect under arrest as he was in custody for the abovementioned incidents.
Tyrus MANN, 23, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
-Second Degree Murder
-Assault Cause Bodily Harm
-Assault a Peace Officer
-Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
-Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
He remains in custody.
The Homicide Unit continues the investigation and is requesting public assistance in identifying the deceased male. He is described as:
- Unknown ethnicity
- Approximately 6’ in height
- No upper teeth
- Will have undergone previous medical facial procedure

On April 27, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to the area of MacDonald Avenue and Gomez Street for the report of a suspicious fire.
Central District General Patrol officers attended and located an involved fire and a deceased victim.
The attending Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members extinguished the fire, and members of the Forensic Services Unit processed the scene. An autopsy is pending.
