Firearm – Arrest: C23-88974

Released: April 18, 2023 at 10:15 a.m.

On April 17, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an individual rummaging through vehicles parked at a dealership in the 3000 block of Portage Avenue.

Officers from the West District arrived on scene, and the suspect took off running and discarded a satchel. He was quickly taken into custody, and the bag, which contained a zip gun (improvised firing device), was recovered.

A 27-year-old male of Winnipeg was arrested on an outstanding warrant and is facing the following firearm-related charges:

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2

- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

- Possession of a Weapon

- Warrant for Aggravated Assault & Possession of a Weapon

He remains in police custody at this time.
