MAYOR GILLINGHAM APPOINTS BUDGET WORKING GROUP

Released: November 17, 2022 at 2:40 p.m.

Mayor Scott Gillingham has announced the members of the Budget Working Group that will be responsible for the 2023 balanced budget update.

Councillors Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Cindy Gilroy (Daniel McIntyre), Janice Lukes (Waverley West), and Russ Wyatt (Transcona) have agreed to serve on the group.

“These Councillors all bring extensive experience to this role, and they represent a balance between EPC and non-EPC members,” said Gillingham. “It is also critical to me that all councillors are part of the budget and have the opportunity for input, so I have asked Councillor Browaty, as Chair of Finance, to lead that process.”

The first priority of the Budget Working Group will be to update the 2023 draft balanced budget with the goal of ensuring the city’s fiscal stabilization.

“The pandemic has had a significant and ongoing impact on the city’s finances, and it’s critical that City Council works together to address the fiscal challenge and set us up for future success,” explained Browaty.

The 2023 balanced budget update will be released in the new year. Concurrent to that, City Council will commence a strategic planning process to identify its shared priorities and set targets for investment for the next four-year balanced budget (2024-27). That work is expected to begin in January.
