As previously released by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service:
On June 2, 2021, at 8:34 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 500 block of Boyd Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, smoke was coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:18 a.m.
Crews searched the home and no people were located. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
Update:
The fire was deemed suspicious, and the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
On January 24, 2022, at 11:46 a.m., a female suspect was placed under arrest at a residence in the William Whyte neighbourhood.
Investigators believe that the suspect had intentionally set fire to a multifamily residence where her adult male partner was residing, causing approximately $60,000 in damage. Two residents of the building were inside at the time of the fire.
Deidre Carmel Bittern, a 34-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life
She was detained.
