Weapons – Arrest: C22-11487

Released: January 17, 2022 at 8 a.m.

On January 17, 2022, at approximately 12:40 a.m., a West District General Patrol unit located a stolen vehicle travelling in the area of Keewatin Street and Logan Avenue. Additional WPS units became involved, and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at Route 90 and Inkster Boulevard. The stolen vehicle stopped in a ditch a short time later.

Officers observed firearms and ammunition and a grenade within the truck. Members of the Bomb Unit were called to assist, however, the grenade was subsequently determined to be inert. Three occupants were taken into custody at the scene.

Seized:
- Sawed-off shotgun (loaded with 5 rounds)
- Semi-automatic rifle (loaded with ten rounds)
- a concealment-style handgun holster
- a loaded handgun magazine
- various rounds of assorted ammunition
- white powdered substance (believed to be cocaine. ESV $20,000)

The 31-year-old male driver faces ten firearms-related charges, as well as:
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Assault Peace Officer x 2
- Possess Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000.

A 22-year-old male passenger faces nine firearms-related offences.
