Robbery with Firearm – Arrest: C22-8794

Released: January 14, 2022 at 8 a.m.

On January 13, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery with a firearm at a grocery store in the 900 block of Portage Avenue.

Store staff reported seeing an adult male exit the store with stolen merchandise. They followed him outside when the accused pointed a handgun at the employees and fled the area.

Police were contacted, and numerous patrol units flooded the area. A Traffic Division Supervisor spotted the accused near Minto Street and Wolever Avenue, taking him into custody. All of the merchandise was recovered, no firearm was located.

Daniel Edward SIMPSON, 29, of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:

- Armed Robbery Using a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammo Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Use of a Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x 2
- Warrants for Theft Under x 2
- Warrant for Robbery, Fail to Comply with Release Order
