Homicide – Update: C21-287269/C22-6405

Released: January 11, 2022 at 8 a.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service previously released information regarding two suspects - Alex Arumeul GENAILLE and Thunder Lightning FONTAINE wanted for the murder of Anthony Sinclair on December 9, 2021.

On January 10, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and General Patrol officers, attended to a residence in the 400 block of Anderson Avenue. GENAILLE was believed to be inside and considered armed and dangerous.

Safe containment was established around the residence. Over the next twelve hours the incident developed into an armed and barricaded event, various tactical operations were deployed to extract the suspect.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., police located GENAILLE hiding within the residence. He was in possession of two firearms and taken into custody. GENAILLE was turned over to the Homicide Unit.

Alex Arumeul GENAILLE, 23, of Winnipeg, was charged with Second Degree Murder and multiple firearms offences. He was detained in custody.

A second suspect remains outstanding. The Homicide Unit continues to seek the public’s assistance to locate:

Height: 5’8”
Weight: 176lbs

FONTAINE is not to be approached. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508, 911, or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
