Robbery with a Weapon – Public Assistance: C21-287882

Released: December 15, 2021 at 8 a.m.

Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service East District are looking for a suspect in three related robbery/assault investigations: Derek James MCDONALD, 28, of Winnipeg.

On December 10, 2021, police received a report of two adults threatened with bear spray. The victims (an adult driver and an elderly passenger) reported giving a ride to an acquaintance. Once they reached his destination in the 600 block of St. Anne’s Road, he threatened to rob them while armed with bear spray. They had nothing to turn over, and the suspect left the vehicle.

Shortly after, police received another report about an additional robbery and assault with bear spray in the 600 block of St. Anne’s Road.

A small group of people, including the suspect from the first report, were at a residence. An argument occurred, and one of the individuals was threatened with bear spray and robbed of their money. The victim ran outside, seeking safety in a waiting vehicle. The suspect followed the victim out and discharged bear spray into the vehicle, striking the other adult occupant. A toddler was seated in the vehicle but was not hit. He then fled the area on foot.

MCDONALD is wanted on a Canada-Wide Warrant for being Unlawfully at Large and has warrants for robberies with a weapon.
