Motorcycle Theft – Public Advisory

The motorcycle season is well upon us.

The Winnipeg Police Service has received an increased number of reports about motorcycle and scooter thefts over the past five years.

In 2020, the police received 195 reports of stolen motorcycles and scooters.

Already in the 2021 riding season, the police have received 50 reports of stolen motorcycles/scooters.

  • The majority of these thefts have occurred between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
  • More than half of these thefts occurred from residential locations, including driveways, parking lots, carports and garages.

Motorcycles that do not have anti-theft provisions in place are easy targets for thieves.
The Winnipeg Police Service recommends motorcyclists utilize two anti-theft devices when your motorcycle/scooter is parked anytime, anywhere.

  • A tire-locking device
  • An ignition locking device

A tire-locking device can be very beneficial when used in tandem with an ignition lock to reduce the possibility of theft.
