On February 10, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service North District officers responded to the area of Higgins Avenue and Main Street for the report of a male armed with a weapon.
Moments earlier, the suspect went to a business in the 1000 block of Main Street. An employee of this business was in the parking lot, sitting inside her vehicle when the suspect randomly began attacking the car with a hammer. A second male employee exited the business to assist when the suspect chased them both back into the building. The male then abruptly fled the area and boarded a transit bus. Responding officers stopped the bus at Higgins Avenue and Main Street and located the suspect still in possession of the hammer.
This suspect was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol. Officers safely de-escalated his erratic behaviour, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
