Canine Memorial Fundraising Campaign

Released: January 13, 2021 at 8 a.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service is creating a permanent Canine Memorial to honour the beloved and devoted working dogs of our Police Service.
Since their introduction to the Service in 1971, Police Service Dogs (PSD) have been instrumental in providing support to many operational units.
Police Service Dogs are commonly used when searching for suspects who have fled a crime scene or may be hiding from police detection. These canines also possess unique skills and capabilities when assisting police members.

Construction of the Canine Memorial will be located at the Winnipeg Police Canine Unit Building, and will commence later this year.

A fundraising campaign is underway, where the public is invited to donate and become part of this legacy project.

Your donations can be recognized with a personalized memory stone. These memory stones will be installed on the entrance sidewalk leading up to the memorial.

Memory Stones come in two sizes:

  • Large memorial stone (8" x 8"): $300 donation
  • Standard memorial stone (4" x 8"): $150 donation

Celebrate the memory of a loved one, a pet, honour someone special in your life or mark a special occasion with your memory stone at the Winnipeg Police Canine Memorial site.
Donations of any amount are welcome, and tax receipts are available.
There is a direct link if you are interested in providing a donation or learning further background on the Canine Memorial.
