Stolen Vehicle – Arrest: C21-3229

Released: January 6, 2021 at 8 a.m.

On January 5, 2021, Winnipeg Police North District General Patrol officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue. The half-ton truck had been reported stolen on December 19, 2020.

As officers approached, the suspect vehicle reversed and struck the marked police cruiser. A female passenger quickly exited the truck and was taken into custody. As officers approached, the driver put the truck into reverse and drove directly towards one of the officers. The officer was able to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. He suffered minor injuries.

As the driver attempted to flee, a second female passenger jumped out of the truck, at which time the driver reversed, causing the female to slip under the vehicle. The open passenger door struck a second officer who was pulling the female to safety. Neither the second passenger nor the officer were seriously injured.

The stolen truck was later located in the 700 block of Inkster Boulevard, and it was determined that the suspect had fled to a nearby residence. Due to concerns over public safety, a significant police presence was deployed until the suspect exited the house and surrendered.
