WPS Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

Released: October 11, 2020 at 8 a.m.

A member of the Winnipeg Police Service has advised they have tested positive for COVID-19. The officer works in the Service Centre at the downtown Headquarters Building at 245 Smith Street.

The Service Centre is where the public report crimes in person and obtain criminal record checks or non-criminal fingerprinting.

The affected member worked in the Service Centre area on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3, as well as the morning of Monday, October 5.

Public health investigations to identify individuals who may have been exposed begin after a confirmed laboratory test. Anyone identified as a close contact will be contacted by public health officials and provided instructions on next steps.

The Winnipeg Police Service has previously implemented numerous safety precautions at station duty, including the installation of glass barriers and requiring that personnel wear masks.

To limit contact with police personnel, the public is encouraged to consider online options for reporting crimes or starting a criminal record check request.
