Weapons – Arrest: C19-302211

On December 29, 2019, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a Guns & Gangs unit was patrolling the area of Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street when they observed a male known to them riding a bicycle on a sidewalk.

The male was stopped in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue and was placed under arrest after a sawed-off pump-action shotgun was observed in his bag, along with an imitation ballistics vest.

The shotgun was determined to have been stolen from a residence in the Selkirk, Manitoba area, in April 2008. The bicycle was also determined to be stolen and had been taken from the Logan Avenue and McPhillips Street area in August 2019.

James Thomas Wiebe, a 28-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Operate a bicycle on a sidewalk with a rear wheel diameter larger than 410 mm (Highway Traffic Act)

He was detained in custody.
