Homicide – Arrest: C19-257277

Released: December 18, 2019 at 8 a.m.

As previously released:

On October 31, 2019, at 10:25 p.m., emergency services personnel were dispatched to a residence at 506 Pritchard Avenue. An adult male resident was located inside and transported to hospital in critical condition. He has since succumbed to his injuries.

Update:

Members of the Major Crimes Unit and Homicide Unit continued with the investigation. The deceased male was identified as Douglas Wood, a 41-year-old male of Winnipeg.

On December 17, 2019, Homicide Unit investigators attended the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue and placed a female suspect under arrest. It is believed that the female and the male, who were acquaintances, had been socializing at the residence when a confrontation occurred. The female later started a fire and fled, leaving the male unable to escape.

Jenna Sereena Kakegamick, a 23-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Second Degree Murder
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life

She was detained in custody.
