2019 Festive Season Checkstop Program – Weeks 1 & 2 Results

Released: December 16, 2019 at 8 a.m.

The Festive Season Checkstop program is again on the road for 2019. Motorists can expect to see our officers at random checkstops throughout the holiday season enforcing Impaired Driving legislation.
Impaired driving continues to be the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada, yet it is 100% preventable. It's important to remember that driving while impaired by cannabis, is a crime.

If you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DON’T DRIVE.

Week 1 & 2 (Sunday, December 1 to Saturday, December 14) results:

  • 711 cars stopped
  • 508 Roadside breath tests administered resulting in 12 warns and 7 fails
  • 20 impaired driving related charges (1 Drug Impaired Driver)
  • 15 traffic tickets issued
  • The highest blood alcohol concentration recorded was 250 mg%

The Winnipeg Police Service would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable festive season.
