Carjacking – Arrest: C19-277310

Released: November 26, 2019 at 8 a.m.

On November 26, 2019, at approximately 2:10 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a carjacking that had occurred to a taxi cab driver in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street.

A female passenger, who had been picked up a short time earlier, had produced a can of bear spray and sprayed the driver. The female fled the area in the stolen cab as the driver sought treatment at a nearby hospital.

At approximately 2:25 a.m., officers located the stolen taxi cab abandoned in the area of Redwood Avenue and Salter Street. It appeared the vehicle had collided with a tree. Soon after, a female suspect was taken into custody in the area of Mountain Avenue and Salter Street.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.

A 21-year-old female of Winnipeg remains in custody at this time and faces charges of:

- Robbery
- Possession of a Weapon
- Breach of Recognizance

She will be detained in custody.
