Homicide – Update: C19-255700

Released: November 7, 2019 at 8 a.m.

As previously released:

On October 30, 2019, at approximately 2:35 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 300 block of Pritchard Avenue for a report of a child that had been seriously assaulted.

Upon arrival, officers located a 3-year-old child suffering from stab wound injuries. The child was subsequently transported to hospital in critical condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and identified a male suspect known to the family.

At approximately 4:05 p.m., a North District General Patrol unit was travelling in the area of McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue when they observed the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Daniel Jensen, a 33-year-old male of Winnipeg, had been charged with:

- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x6)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order

On November 2, 2019, the 3-year-old child succumbed to his injuries.

Update:

In consultation with Manitoba Justice, members of the Major Crimes Unit obtained a warrant for the arrest of Daniel Jensen for Second Degree Murder.

On November 6, 2019, investigators attended the Winnipeg Remand Centre (WRC) and placed Jensen under arrest.

Jensen has been returned to custody.
