Winnipeg, MB - At an event this afternoon, City Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, Principal of Meadows West School Roger LeGrand and members of the community turned sod on the Rose Hill Park renewal project.
“I am pleased to have incorporated feedback from residents about how they can best utilize the park space, into the field area of Rose Hill Park,” said Mike Pagtakhan, City Councillor for Point Douglas and Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection Community Services & Parks. “As we break ground today, I am very much looking forward to the transformation of this vital community space.”
To increase the functionality of the parks space, during the $350,000 first phase of the 2017 renewal project, an accessible 6-foot wide asphalt multi-use fitness path will be constructed around the periphery of the park, making connections to the existing east and west park entrances. The path will also include several outdoor workout stations. Site drainage will also be improved near the playground with the installation of a catch basin and new soil and sod re-grading.
A second phase of the 2017 renewal project will include the installation of a shade shelter and u-shaped seating area near the play structures at a cost of approximately $123,000.
Further, Meadows West School undertook an initiative to secure funding for the installation of 15 trees in the park space. All of this work is scheduled to be completed by October 2017.
The City of Winnipeg invited Winnipeggers to provide their input in the second phase of the Rose Hill Park renewal project earlier this year to get the public’s input on fitness equipment options. For more information on Rose Hill Park, please see winnipeg.ca/rosehillpark.
