Feedback on 2018 Budget priorities and preferences released

Released: June 27, 2017 at 12:10 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - The final report on the 2018 Budget Public Engagement, summarizing what we heard from Winnipeggers to help inform the budget process, is now available on the City of Winnipeg's website.

Last year, during the 2017 Budget consultations, the City heard that Winnipeggers wanted to be involved earlier in the budget development process. This year’s budget public engagement occurred in April, before the 2018 budget development process began. Residents had multiple opportunities to provide their input, including an online survey, budgeting tool, idea forum, and in-person at 17 pop-up events located throughout the city.

Through the public engagement for the 2018 Budget, the City interacted with over 900 residents at pop-up events, received over 250 surveys from the public, 76 ideas posted to the idea wall, and 52 submissions to the budget allocator tool, while over 600 employees completed and submitted an internal survey.

The feedback received will help the City to develop a budget that reflects Winnipeggers’ priorities and preferences for key services and infrastructure while investing in the future of our city.

Winnipeggers will still have the opportunity to participate in the 2018 budget development process by registering as a delegation at Standing Policy Committee meetings once the preliminary budget is tabled.
