Transit service reductions expected

Released: September 9, 2015 at 8:37 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Citizens are advised that due to a shortage of buses available for regular Transit service, a reduction of available service on select transit routes can be expected until further notice.

Winnipeg Transit operates with among the lowest number of spare buses of any large Transit system. Recent increasing maintenance requirements have caused a backlog of buses pulled off routes for maintenance, resulting in a shortage of buses available for peak service.

In an effort to provide as predictable a service as possible to the public, Winnipeg Transit will attempt to limit Transit service reductions to specific routes. Routes with frequent or alternative transit service will have some service reduced in an effort to minimize overall disruption to the Transit system.

Routes most likely to be affected include:

Morning rush hour:
17, 21, 22, 25, 29, 34, 44, 46, 54, 55, 58, 66, 75, 78, 137, 160, 162, 163

Afternoon rush hour:
11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 29, 41, 44, 46, 55, 58, 75, 77, 183

Transit customers are advised to check winnipegtransit.com, TeleBUS, or to contact 311 by phone on the day they travel for the latest service information for impacted routes.

Winnipeg Transit appreciates customers’ patience during this service disruption.

Handi-Transit service is not impacted by this service disruption. Winnipeg Transit carries over 130,000 riders each weekday.
