Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg today released the Core Fire Hall Access Management Study (also referred to as the Station No. 11 traffic study) as used in the development and planning of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service’s (WFPS) new Station No. 11, located at 1705 Portage Avenue. The report was prepared for the City’s Public Works Department by Stantec Consulting in April 2011.
“The Core Fire Hall Access Management Study was used to identify potential traffic issues with locating the new fire hall at the interchange of Portage Avenue and Century Street,” said Michael Jack, Acting Chief Administrative Officer, City of Winnipeg. “Virtually all development adjacent to roadways requires some planning to address potential traffic impacts. To date, the proposed access management strategies noted in the Study that were accepted by the City combined with modifications to the facility made during the final design, have resulted in safe traffic flow and efficient operation of the station.”
The Study and supplemental documents are available at City of Winnipeg - Core Fire Hall Access Management Study.
Station No. 11 is one of the City’s largest fire paramedic stations and houses both firefighter and paramedic units as well as specialized equipment and teams such as HAZMAT and water rescue.
