Winnipeg, MB - Prepared for forecasted snowfall late yesterday and overnight, City crews are continuing to respond, clearing accumulations of snow and ice. A snow clearing and sanding operation began at about midnight on Friday. Snow clearing and sanding operations are continuing today as follows:
Priority 1 streets (regional) - Truck plowing operations began last evening, and will continue across the regional streets network. Sanding operations will continue as conditions warrant, to improve roadway traction.
Priority 2 street (collector/bus routes) - A truck plowing operation will be in effect on collector streets and bus routes, following through at the end of the truck plowing of regional streets. Crews will also be plowing country roads as and where required.
Priority 3 streets (residential) - Crews are monitoring the residential road network. Areas prone to drifting are being monitored and will be addressed with spot plowing and sanding where required.
Priority 1, 2 and 3 sidewalks - A Priority 1 sidewalk plowing operation began at 7:00 a.m. today, and will continue on through the Priority 2 and Priority 3 networks until completed.
Back lanes - The lane clearing operation commenced at 7:00 a.m. today and will continue as part of day shift operations.
Only the regular Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect at this time, meaning parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets displaying “Snow Route” signs. For updates on snow/sanding operations and parking bans, please visit the Public Works Department website.
Citizens are urged to drive according to conditions and to use caution around snow clearing equipment.
Snow disposal sites are currently open and available for public use.
