New pilot project to test direct sales of City's used vehicles to the public

Winnipeg, MB - Today the City of Winnipeg launched a new website to market the City’s surplus fleet vehicles to the general public. The website is phase one of a pilot project which will revise and update the City’s process for the disposal of surplus assets such as vehicles, equipment and material.

“This new approach for the disposal of surplus assets will allow us to obtain the best resale value possible and create additional revenue for the City,” said Mike Ruta, the City’s Chief Financial Officer.

The City of Winnipeg has previously used private auction services to manage the disposal of its surplus vehicles. The new website is modelled after the City of Calgary’s method for sale of surplus assets. Calgary generally attains revenues 10 to 20 per cent higher than those sold through auction.

Vehicles appearing for sale on the new website will be available for viewing by appointment and are sold as is and with no guarantees or warranties. Options for payment are bank draft, certified cheque or money order. Appointments may be booked by phoning 204-918-3608 or by email at SurplusSales@winnipeg.ca
