Registration information for candidates for Mayor

Winnipeg, MB - The 2014 General Civic Election for the City of Winnipeg will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for Mayor, Councillors and School Trustees.

Today is the first day of the Campaign Period for persons seeking election to the Office of Mayor. All candidates must register in-person, with the Senior Election Official.

Registrations for Mayoralty candidates will be accepted by the Senior Election Official starting today at the City Clerk’s Department, Main Floor, Administration Building, 510 Main Street, during business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The deadline for registration is 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. All persons who wish to register must ensure the required information is included with their registration form. The list of requirements can be found in the Campaign Expenses and Contributions Guide.

Persons must be registered as a candidate prior to:

  • soliciting or collecting any campaign funding
  • expending any funds on their campaign (such as advertising)

Note that the campaign period for Councillor candidates begins on Monday, June 30, 2014. This is also the first date on which Councillor candidates can register.There is no legislatively defined campaign period nor any campaign expense rules for School Trustee candidates.

The nomination period for the Offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee takes place from September 10 to 16, 2014.

As candidates register, the listing will be immediately updated to reflect any additions. This information can be found on the website under “Information about Candidates,” on the Election App under “Candidate Listing” and will also be posted in the Council Building.
