New public information campaign to use TV, radio, web and social media to provide citizens with facts on City services

Winnipeg, MB - Today the City of Winnipeg, in partnership with CTV Bellmedia, launched a new feature to provide citizens with information on the services citizens rely on every day of the year.

A new “Winnipeg Minute” will be produced every month. Each feature will provide information on a specific area of City Council-approved services and programs. Sixty-second features appearing on CTV Winnipeg will be complemented by 30- and 60-second radio spots on BOB FM, TSN 1290, and 103 Virgin Radio, social media postings, and links to information on the City’s website.

The first Winnipeg Minute focuses on recycling services and can be viewed on the City’s website at A Winnipeg Minute. All monthly video vignettes will be accessible through the page as well.

In addition to the monthly features, the flexibility of radio, web and social media platforms can be used to quickly produce and provide information related to emergency situations like the current frozen water pipe situation, or spring flooding, as examples.

The City is a key provider of information and services. This program has been developed as a way to build on the ways in which we currently communicate with citizens. It will help to provide information in a more efficient, cost-effective way to a broader audience, and is expected to reach 95% of citizens through the one-year pilot program.

A Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Public Information and Communications campaign was issued in November, and closed in December 2013. Following the evaluation of seven responses to the RFP, a contract valued at $470,500 was awarded to CTV Bellmedia in January 2014. The funds for the program are being drawn from existing budgets of City departments.
