Winter Fun for everyone in Winnipeg parks

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg wants to remind the public that there are lots of ways to enjoy outdoor activities at City parks and facilities this holiday season. The City Parks and Open Space Division and neighbourhood community centres offer a wide range of outdoor amenities and locations for winter activities.

Winter park amenities include community club skating rinks, skating ponds at designated locations, neighbourhood pleasure rinks, toboggan slides and hills, and cross country ski trails.

Tobogganing

Toboggan Hills (open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

  • Victoria Jason Park (Crocus Park), 255 Redonda Street
  • Harbourview Park & Recreation Complex, 1867 Springfield Road
  • Westview Park, 1 Midland Street (Shared Use Park - watch for signs indicating areas that can be used for sliding)

Winter Slides (open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

  • Crescent Drive Park, 781 Crescent Drive
  • Kildonan Park, 2015 Main Street (opening on December 24, 2013)
  • Bunn’s Creek Park, 365 McIvor Avenue
  • St. Vital Park, 190 River Road
  • Fraser’s Grove Park, 85 Fraser’s Grove

Skating

Construction on the duck pond next to the Peguis Pavilion in Kildonan Park will continue throughout the winter. The public is asked to stay clear of the construction area by accessing the skating rink and toboggan slides from the west park roadway. Parking along the roadway is permitted.

Construction is also taking place at St. Vital Duck Pond building; no warm up shelter or changing facilities are available. Temporary wind breaks and seating have been provided as well as portable toilets.

Regional Park Skating Rinks (open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.)

  • Kildonan Park, 2015 Main Street (beside the toboggan slides north of the Chief Peguis Pavilion) (opening on December 24, 2013)
  • Harbourview Park & Recreation Complex, 1867 Springfield Road (Change facilities available)
  • St. Vital Park Duck Pond, 190 St. Vital Road
  • Crescent Drive Park, 781 Crescent Drive

Please be mindful of staff and equipment working on the ice. There will be no ice maintenance or washrooms open to the public on Christmas Day.

Cross-country skiing

The winter conditions have allowed our cross-country ski trails to open early. Trail locations include Kildonan Park, Harbour View, St. Vital Park, La Barriere Park, and Living Prairie Museum. For a list of trail amenities and for more information, please visit City of Winnipeg - Ski Trails

Snowshoeing

Snowshoe through 40 acres of tall grass prairie at Living Prairie Museum. For more information and to book your snowshoes, please visit City of Winnipeg - Living Prairie Museum

Give snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and other winter activities a try at Living Prairie Museum’s fourth annual Snow Trek on February 9, 2014. Instructors will be on site to show you the ropes at this free event.
