Winnipeg Transit achieves outstanding results as part of independent benchmarking

High Operational efficiency reported for Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg, MB - The Ontario Municipal Benchmarking Initiative (OMBI) recently released data from their 2012 Performance Measurement Report and Winnipeg Transit ranked as a top performer.

Winnipeg Transit has scored exceptionally well as a national leader in the provision of Transit service, and was ranked best for its performance pertaining to cost measures, as well as having amongst the lowest operating subsidies.

“We are extremely pleased with the results presented in this report,” said Dave Wardrop, Director of Winnipeg Transit. “Regular benchmarking against other municipalities allows us to evaluate and improve our performance in service areas that matter to our customers and taxpayers.” “Despite enjoying recognition from an independent benchmarking authority such as OMBI, we look forward to achieving further improvements in the value and effectiveness of service delivery to Winnipeggers.”

Highlights from OMBI 2012 Performance Measurement Report

  • Lowest Transit Operating Cost per Vehicle Hour
    • Winnipeg Transit’s average operating cost per hour is the lowest in the study group and 29% lower than the municipal average; an indicator of exceptionally efficient Transit service delivery.
  • Lowest Transit Operating Costs per Passenger
    • Winnipeg Transit’s operating cost per passenger was ranked lowest and was 39% lower than the average municipality; an indicator of the effective application of Transit service and available resources.
  • Low Transit Operating Subsidies
    • Winnipeg Transit’s Operating Revenue/Cost ratio was 37% higher than the average municipality. Given Winnipeg’s comparatively low fares, this is an indicator of the public benefit realized by cost effective Transit service delivery.
