Winnipeg, MB - City snow clearing crews have completed truck plowing on all main routes, bus routes and collector streets. Crews will continue to address locations that are prone to drifting snow such as outlying areas. Sanding trucks are continuing to work around-the-clock to address conditions on the roadway and improve traction.
Plowing of sidewalks on main routes and sidewalks on bus routes and collector streets is also underway and will continue throughout the weekend until completed. This will be followed by plowing of sidewalks on residential streets later in the week. Back lane plowing, which started this morning, will continue daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until completed.
The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban has been lifted, however the Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect on city streets designated as Snow Routes. Parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. each night until March 1, 2014.
The City does not have a residential plow planned for over the weekend. The Department will continue to evaluate the condition of residential streets and address individual concerns of local drifting if a residential street becomes impassible. Citizens are asked to contact 311 if their residential street is impassible.
The Department will monitor the weather conditions over the weekend and on Monday morning will reassess and decide whether or not to initiate a residential plow at that time.
As about 300 pieces of equipment is being used for this operation, motorists are reminded to drive to winter road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or sanding equipment.
Plowing operations commenced in accordance with the Council-approved Snow Cleaning and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at: City of Winnipeg - Snow Clearing Policy
