Winnipeg, MB - Flags are flying at half-mast at City Hall today in observance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

In 1991, The Government of Canada established the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in memory of the 14 female students who were killed in an act of anti-feminism at l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on Dec. 6, 1989.

“Today is a day of remembrance and reflection, as we mark the 24th anniversary of the Massacre in Montreal,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “It is also a time to remember all victims of domestic and gender-based violence, and strengthen our resolve as a community to prevent and stand up against these crimes.”
