Truck plowing on main routes, bus routes and collector streets is underway

Due to overnight snowfall, strong winds and drifting conditions, a truck plowing operation was initiated overnight and is continuing on main routes, bus routes and collectors; sanding of streets will continue

Winnipeg, MB - Due to overnight snowfall, strong winds and drifting conditions, a truck plowing operation was initiated overnight and is continuing on main routes, bus routes and collectors. Plowing will continue until completed.

Plowing of sidewalks on main routes, bus routes and collector streets is also underway and will continue until completed.

Plowing of back lanes will commence Friday, December 6 at 7:00 a.m. in all areas of the city.

Motorists are reminded to drive to winter road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or sanding equipment.

About 300 pieces of equipment will be used for this clean-up operation which is estimated to cost approximately $1 million.

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect this evening on street designated as snow routes between the hours of midnight to 7:00 a.m.

The Public Works Department is continuing to monitor and assess the residential network. No decision has been made regarding the plowing of residential streets. The Department will address areas of local drifting if a residential street becomes impassible.

Plowing operations commenced in accordance with the Council-approved Snow Cleaning and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at City of Winnipeg - Snow Clearing Policy.
