Living Prairie Museum - 6th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are reminded to save-the-date and plan to attend the 6th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival at the Living Prairie Museum, 2795 Ness Avenue on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.

Activities at the festival will include:

  • Guided prairie hikes: Tour the preserve with a knowledgeable naturalist and learn about the butterflies, plants and animals of the tall grass prairie.
  • Storytelling: Local storyteller and author Joe McLellan will read from his latest children’s story Nanabosho and the Butterflies.
  • Butterfly gardening workshop: Discover how to bring butterflies to your backyard by creating your very own butterfly garden using native prairie plants. Workshop is hosted by John Morgan of Prairie Habitats Inc.
  • Meet butterfly scientists and entomologists: Learn about interesting and important research that is happening in Manitoba.
  • Butterfly release: Help butterflies return to their home and watch as they fly away.

All-day activities include: life-cycle displays, crafts, face-painting, silk screening (bring a t-shirt), and a prairie plant sale.

Admission is FREE. Donations are always gladly accepted.
