Winnipeg, MB - Today at the Kildonan Park Pool, Councillor Thomas Steen announced the winners of the City’s first Leisure Guide Art Contest. The contest was open to all artists aged 6 to 12 and the goal of the contest was to get children thinking about recreation and why keeping active is an important part of staying healthy.

“Recreation is an important part of staying active for people of all ages,” said Steen, Councillor for Elmwood-East Kildonan and Councillor responsible for Youth and Recreation. “Leisure Guide programs are a great resource for families to find a wide variety of affordable recreational activities. By encouraging children to make exercise and fitness a daily part of their lives, we can help instill healthy, life-long habits.”

Children were asked to use their creativity and imagination to create a picture showing their favourite recreation activity or experience. The City received more than 90 entries for the contest. The winning images will be featured on the covers of three Community Services publications.
