Free parking to thank local Veterans for their sacrifices and to honour anniversary of D-Day

Winnipeg, MB - Veterans are reminded that on Thursday, June 6, 2013, all vehicles with a Manitoba Veteran licence plate will receive complimentary parking at City on-street metered parking spaces. The June 6, free parking initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to thanking Manitoba Veterans for their sacrifices as well as recognizing the 69th Anniversary of D-Day.

“We owe so much respect and gratitude to Manitoba Veterans for defending our freedom,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “The complimentary parking initiative is a small token of our appreciation for their bravery and service.”

In addition to free parking on the anniversary of D-Day, the City also provides no-charge parking at on-street metered spaces to Veterans on Remembrance Day (November 11) and the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (April 9).

The City also provides a parking coupon booklet that provides up to 20 hours of complimentary parking annually for Veterans with a Manitoba Veteran licence plate.

The decision to provide preferential parking for Veterans was approved by City Council on October 24, 2012.
